The story revolves around Doree, a six-year-old endearing girl, who lives with her handicapped foster father, Ganga Prasad in the weavers’ tenement in Benaras. The world of orthodox patriarchy opens to her when she meets Kailashi Devi, the misogynistic head of the Thakur family.

Plot Points
- Mansi gives birth to a daughter, whom Anand throws away in the river Ganges, fearing Kailashi Devi’s reaction.
- Ganga finds the abandoned girl child and raises her, naming her Doree.
- Doree discovers she is adopted.
- Mansi sets out to find her lost daughter after the midwife admits not killing her.
- Kailashi Devi gets Ganga arrested on false claims, but Doree soon gets him freed after begging Kailashi Devi for forgiveness.
- Neelu discovers that Doree is Mansi and Anand’s daughter and informs Anand about the same while lying to Mansi that her daughter died.
- Komal gives birth to twins, a boy and a girl, incurring Kailashi Devi’s rage.
